質疑応答の内容

Please come in. Please put your bag.

Thank you.

Please sit down.

Thank you.

Please introduce yourself.

My name is ........ I live in ........ City in ........ Prefecture.

How long did it take to come here?

About two and a half hours.(文で答えるべきでした)

I will ask you some questions. Where is the snowiest place in Japan? And how does it affect the peoples' life?

Niigata Prefecture, in the northern part of Japan, and Hokkaido, the northernmost island, have the heaviest snowfalls. Peoples' life is hard in those areas. They have to get rid of snow from the roofs of their houses. That is a hard job. Actually, my sister lived in Niigata Prefecture for some time. She said she had a difficult time. Also, it is difficult to move around the city because of the heave snowfalls.

For us foreigners, it is strange to see so many bicycles illegally parked in front of stations and on the streets. What do you think of this situation?

I think it is a big problem. Often they make it difficult for pedestrians to walk on the streets. We should improve that situation.

What do you recommend they do?

I recommend they park their bicycles in the parking lot.

What is the difference between Uchiwa and Sensu? How do you describe them?

Uchiwa is a round fan with a bamboo handle. And Sensu is a folding fan with

wooden flames. Both are used in making oneself cool.

Bamboo handle and what?

The shape is different. Uchiwa is round, and as for Sensu, you can fold it.

Oh, I see. Tell me about Hiragana and Katakana.

Hiragana and Katakana were created from Kanji, or Chinese characters. They are used in combination with Kanji characters.

Why do you need Hiragana and Katakana? What is the difference between the two?

We use Katakana when we write loanwords. We use Hiragana ... in combination with Kanji characters.(明らかに変でした) They symbolize the sound and they are phonetic. They were created during the Heian period.

Why do you want to be a tour guide?

As a citizen of Himeji City, I am proud of Himeji Castle which is a World Heritage site. If I can become a tour guide, I want to introduce Himeji Castle to foreign tourists. But unfortunately, the renovation of the Castle will start soon. We have to hurry. The renovation project will last for five years.

I've been to Himeji Castle. I was surprised at their guarding system.(うんうんと頷きましたが、なにも言いませんでした)

You want to guide people around Himeji Castle. But if you need to guide around Kyoto, where do you recommend?

I would recommend Kiyomizu Temple, which is the most famous temple in Kyoto. It has a unique construction like a stage or a balcony jutting out of the cliff. And Ginkakuji Temple or Silver Pavilion. From Silver Pavilion to Chionin Temple, what we call “Tetsugaku no michi” or “Road of Philosophy” goes through. Walking along that road is nice too.(これは準備していたので、つい大きな声になってしまい。試験官2人とも目を伏せました)

It is about time. Thank you.
