Good afternoon. How are you?

Great, thank you.

Please tell me your name.

My name is .........

Tell me where you live.

I live in .........

You are from ......... What is a great thing about .........

Kyoto has many beautiful temples and shrines.

Could you tell me one of them?

I like Kiyomizu Temple. It is constructed over the cliff and you can enjoy an amazing, panoramic view of Kyoto from its wide veranda.

When is the best season for it?

You can enjoy the view all year around, but I think spring is the best because you can see beautiful cherry blossoms.

You live in ........ and what are the difference between Osaka people and Kyoto people?

I think people in Kyoto are not as open-minded as people in Osaka, and they are a little conservative. Osaka people are funny and they like teasing people. Sometimes they seem to be rude to others but they are funny.(大阪の人は商売上手と付け加えたらよかった)

I see.(Bの面接官が声を上げて笑ってくれました)OK. Japan has four distinctive seasons. How would you describe them to tourists?

Spring and autumn are neither too hot nor too cold, so they are good seasons to travel in Japan.(単純な文法を間違え、数回言い直す)Summer is hot and humid, but you can enjoy swimming in the sea, and local festivals are also enjoyable. (秋についてなにか言ったかどうか思い出せない) In winter, you can enjoy a dish called Nabe, which is a pot dish cooked at the table.(少し質問の内容と反れた)

You talked about local festivals. What festival would you recommend?

I would recommend Gion Festival. It is held in July and you can see the parade with floats on the street.

OK. How would you describe Sumo?

It is considered to be a national sport. It was a part of the traditional ritual but now it is a popular spectator sport. Two sumo wrestlers fight one another in a ring. Before a bout, they throw salt into the ring. It is done to purify the sacred fighting ground. They also stomp their feet, which is done to get rid of evil spirits in the earth of the ring. A contestant loses when any part of his body except the soles of his feet touches the ground or when his is pushed out of the ring.(ふんどしイッチョウのことを言い忘れた。

Have you ever seen an actual Grand Sumo tournament with your own eyes?

Unfortunately not, but I would like to see it someday.(直接見たことがあるかということだと思った)

Then, someday with your tourists?

Yes.

Why do Japanese children go to cram school and what do you think about it?

They go to cram school because they want to study extra hours to pass entrance examinations to get into high school or college. Personally, I don't think it is a good idea. Studying is important, of course, but I think when you are young, you should play in nature. You can learn lots of more important things in life.

Did you go to cram school?

Yes.

What kind of cram school did you go to?

I went to a local cram school and I studied math and English.

Wow. It's hard. Well, I know the next question is difficult. What is Giri?

Giri is a sense of social obligation. It is considered to develop while you live a life, until you die.(最後の方はちょっと詰まった)

Tell me an example. I know this is difficult.

Well. One good example is that someone helps you when you are in trouble.(sが抜けた)You can not give him a reward or favor right away, but you still remember it. And when the opportunity materializes, you give him some reward or favor.(日本人面接官が頷いてくれた。

My last question is ... I have a half day. Where would you take me in Tokyo?

In Tokyo, I would take you to Meiji Shrine. It was built in 1920 and is dedicated to Emperor Meiji. Now it is a popular tourist site. People go there on New Year's Day, and wedding ceremonies are also conducted there. Then I would take you to Asakusa. It is an old town. I think you can enjoy the atmosphere. You can buy some traditional Japanese souvenirs such as folding fans, or paper dolls.

Thank you.

Have a good day.

Thank you.
