A : Will you tell us your name and where you live?
My name is ... I live in Uji City, Kyoto.
A : Oh, Uji!
A : Japan is said to be a country of food culture. Do you think it is really a country of food culture?
Yes, I think so.
A : Why do you think so?
Japanese people are sensitive to taste. We have a lot of dishes which are delicious and beautiful to the eye. In Kyoto, for example, we have a lot of good food. "Shojin ryori", which is a vegetarian meal, is delicious and healthy. And "kaiseki ryori", which is served before the tea ceremony, is refined food. It's ingredients are fresh and seasonal. As emperors and aristocrats lived in Kyoto, food has been refined.
A : How about food in other areas?
Each area has its own good food.
A : Next is quite a different question. Recently, there are some cases in which guns and bullets are sold and bought on the Internet. In some cases, bullets have exploded. What do you think about this?
I think the regulation to ban such things should be made. To advertise such things on the Internet should not be allowed. But it may be difficult to ban it, because it may violate the freedom of expression. Each of us should be very careful not to be tempted by such advertisements.
A : What is "choko"?
"Choko" is a small cup for drinking sake. When we serve sake to guests, we pour sake into an "choko". As "choko" is very small, we pour sake into it several times.
