Hello, Good afternoon.

A,B : Hello

May I take the seat?

A : Yes. Sure.

Thank you.

B : First of all, please introduce yourself.

My name is .... I am from Handa City in Aichi Prefecture. It is a town of vinegar.

A : I have never heard of that. Where is it? Is it far from here?

It is a two-hour ride by train.

A : How many people live there?

About a hundred thousand people live there. It is a small town.

A : I am always suprised to hear that. Japanese people always say such a town
small, but in my hometown, ten thousand people live there. I have never thought it is small.

A : Now I am going to ask you some questions. Please answer them, thinking I am a foreigner who does not know about Japan.

Yes.

A : I see Japanese people often smile, but I think they have another thing on their minds. Why do Japanese people always smile when talking with other people?

Japanese people place a lot of importance on harmony with others in order to avoid conflicts, so they try to smile when they are not supposed to. For example, they smile when they feel angry, disappointed, or embarrassed. But the world is becoming more and more internationalized, so Japanese people will have more chances to communicate with foreign people.

Foreign people will not understand what they are thinking if they do not speak frankly, so Japanese people should speak frankly what they would like to say.

A : Next question. What do you think about starting English education at elementary school?

I think it is a good idea because children can learn English well if they start learning it in their earlier stage of education.

A : Do you think it is also a good idea for children to study learning other languages? I mean languages other than English.

If they have a free time, I think it is a good idea for children to study other languages from their earlier stage of education.

A : Last question.

A : I have heard the Japanese word "omiyamairi" before. I do not know what it means. Please tell me about "omiyamairi."

When parents have a baby, they go to shrines to cerebrate the birth of their child. That is called "omiyamairi."

A : Is it a popular style for parents to go to a shrine together with their family, or do only the parents go with their kids?

Parents go only with their kids, but it is a traditional Japanese custom. Young parents do not go these days.

A : That is all. It is finished.

Thank you for your time.

I felt very nervous.

A : Do not worry. Everybody is nervous. Not only you.

Bye-Bye.

(試験官A,B,Cに。
