Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen.

A : Please tell us your name and where you are from.

My name is .... I live in Yawata City. Yawata City is in the southern part of Kyoto and located at the border of Osaka and Kyoto.

A : OK. Why do Japanese clap their hands at a rhythm at certain ceremonies?

("rhythm"の発音が聞きにくかった)

Sorry, please say that again.

(試験官Bは同じことを繰り返す。ようやく、一本締や三々七拍子のことかと考えた)

I have been working fora my company for more than thirty years. I have had many parties to welcome someone or to say farewell to someone. In most parties, especially at end-of-the-year parties, we clap our hands like this.

(といって実際に三々七拍子をやってみせる)

A : Oh, I understand! So Japanese do that to wrap up parties.

Yes, that's right.

A : Why are crimes by youths increasing in Japan?

In Japan, many young mothers do not scold their children when they make noise on the train. I think it is because those mothers were also not scolded by their parents when they were young. So they are afraid about how their children will react when they scold their children. I don't think we can decrease the number of crimes if we don't improve our education system.

A : I see. Next question. Are Japanese fathers strict these days?

I don't think so. Japanese fathers aren't as strict as before. Japanese fathers have to be strict again, otherwise the Japanese education system won't be improved. We have to educate our children more strictly as my father did with me.

A : A North Korean ship has been visiting a Japanese port many times, and it has been inspected. What do you think about this?

The Japanese government is taking a very strong diplomatic stance on the abduction issue, but not so much on the "Man Gyong Bong" issue. I think the Japanese government has to take the same strong stance on the "Man Gyong Bong" issue, too.

A : Oh, you're saying the Japanese fathers have to be strong and the Japanese government also has to be strong.

Yes, that's right.

(質問の内容と答えが一致していないとは感じたが、無理矢理自分のペースに持ち込んでしまった。しかし、面接の流れとしては終始一貫した考えを自分で貫いたことに対して、試験官は納得してくれていることが分かった。)

A,B,C : Thank you very much.

Thank you for your time.
