B:What is your name?
My name is .... ....
B:Where are you from?(B
I am from .... city in .... prefecture.
A:Well, first of all let me ask you something about Japanese geography. When is the typhoon season?
A typhoon comes in August and September, sometimes in October and early ones come in July.
A:I am a tourist. Where do you recommend me to visit? Tell me your favorite place.
I love nature especially mountains. So I would like to recommend you to go to the Chubu mountainous region, mountains such as the Northern Alps and Yatsugatake mountain range. I like Mt. Yatsugatake very much.
A:Where is it?
It is in Yamanashi prefecture. It is a very beautiful mountain.
A:(Aが机の上に置いてあった黄色く色付いた銀杏の葉を手に取って) What is this?
It is a leaf of a ginkgo tree.
A:Could you tell me something about ginkgo trees?
Well, there is a huge gingko tree in the precinct of the Tsurugaoka-hachiman shrine in Kamakura. This tree has an interesting story. In Kamakura era the last Shogun was assassinated in this shrine. At that time the assassin hid himself behind this ginkgo tree waiting the Shogun to come and killed him. It was almost a thousand years ago. Even at that time the tree was big enough to hide a man behind it. It is an amazing size, isn’t it?
A:Were there any female rulers in the Japanese history?
Yes, there were. The famous one is Himiko, who lived almost two thousand years ago. She was not in the same imperial reign as the current one. In the current imperial reign there were some female emperors, I mean, they were empresses. But the current imperial family law does not allow the female emperor. There was a movement to change the law, because the current emperor does not have a male successor. Actually the former cabinet once tried to revise the law. However by chance his sister in law, the wife of his brother, got pregnant, and so the attempt to change the law was quit.
A:What, do you think, is the most important thing for tour guide? And why would you like to be a tour guide?
Well, I think, the most important thing for a tour guide is to be a reliable person for tourists. They are strangers here in Japan. They usually do not have anybody to rely on if something happens. So I should be a reliable person about not only tour guide things but also the matters of their life in general. The hospitality mind is also important. And I would like to give them a good memory and hopefully expect them to have a lasting interest about Japan.
I now work for some car company and I have had a lot of valuable global experiences with our foreign partners through my job. In a global business, success won’t be possible without mutual understanding through good communication. This theory can be applied not only for business but also politics, diplomacy, and grass-root relationship like tourism as well. In that sense I think that the tour guide is an important and worthwhile job. My retirement year in the company is coming soon. But even after retirement I would like to do something for the people and the society using my experience and knowledge. This is why I would like to be a tour guide.
A:I see. Thank you.
Thank you.
ガイド試験に関する感想ですが、合格するにはKnowledge(知識)、Language(言語)、Skill(技術)の三拍子が必要かと思います。 Knowledge(知識)とLanguage(言語)、継続して鍛えて行きたいと思います。更に実際はKnowledge(知識)、Language(言語)、Skill(技術)の基礎のところに最も大切なPersonality(人柄)があるのでしょう。
