Good morning.

Good morning.

Please put your bag here.(入口近くのソファを指して)

Thank you.

How are you?

I’m fine but quite nervous.

Everybody’s nervous. Do not feel so nervous. Relax.
Look at the beautiful scenery.

Yes. The colored leaves are so beautiful.

What’s your name?

My name is .........

Where are you from?

I’m from ........ in ........ prefecture.

How did you come here?

I came here by Hankyu line.

It took one hour?

Well, more than one hour. It took about an hour and a half.

Did you get up early?

Yes, I got up around 7:00. I usually get up at 7:00 to go to work. So it’s about the same…but I’m nervous.

Yeah, you are not nervous when you go to work.(笑いながら)

OK. I’d like to ask you some questions. I heard about the system called sankinkotai. In the Edo period feudal lords were forced to travel between Edo and their home countries every other year.(実際使われた表現は思い出せませんが、参勤交代の内容を説明されました)Why?

It is because shogun wanted feudal lords to lose power. If a local lord has to go to Edo and come back to his home country, it costs a lot of money.

OK. How is the Japanese prime minister elected?

Japanese prime minister is the leader of the ruling party.

Oh, I see. Just like Canada. People do not vote for the prime minister.

No, we do not directly vote for…(言い終わらないくらいのタイミングで次の質問をされました)

OK. Let’s change the topic. Please tell me about the Japanese climate.

Japanese climate is almost mild. (Aがうなずくのを確認して) Japan has four clear-cut seasons, as you know, spring, summer, autumn and winter. Japan also has a rainy season which starts in mid-June and lasts for about a month.

Which season do you like best?

I like summer best.

Why?

Because in summer there are a lot of fireworks displays throughout the country.

Oh, I see.(Bもうなずいていました)When is your birthday?

April.

I heard people like the season of birthday but… I like hot weather.

I see. Why do you want to become a tour guide?

There are some reasons. Japan has many wonderful culture, tradition, scenic spots and historic buildings. I’m proud of these heritages. I want to introduce Japan to as many people as possible. I hope many foreigners will come to Japan and come to like this country.

Why is your English so good?

Thank you. I started learning English when I was in elementary school. My parents put me in an English school.

Oh.

Yes, local school.

Have you ever home stayed abroad?(動詞としてhome-stayを使われたと思います)

Yes, I home stayed with my friends, my father’s friends in Sydney, Australia. I spent a couple of months there when I was in university.

OK. Thank you for your time. Are you going to do sightseeing in Kyoto in the afternoon?

Yes, I’d like to. Now that the pressure is off, I’d like to stroll around.

Have you ever been here?

No, I’ve never been here.

Enjoy! Have a nice day.

Thank you. (退出の前にドアの前で再度挨拶しました)Thank you very much for your time.

Thank you.

See you.

I hope.(ドアを閉めながらこう言うと笑い声が聞こえてきました)
