A,C: Good afternoon.

Good afternoon.

C: You can put your bag on the seat. Please have a seat.

Thank you.

C: I would like to ask you two questions and after that we would like to ask you some questions about Japanese culture.

Yes. Please go ahead.

C: The first question is, what is your name?

My name is ○○.

C: Where do you live?

I live in Fujisawa city in Kanagawa prefecture.

C: How did you come here today?

I came here by train.

C: Which line did you take?

With the Tokaido line.

C: Did you need to change trains?

No need to change.

A: What are Onsen hotels?

They are hot spring hotels and inns.
They are relaxing places for Japanese people.
(このあといくつかの温泉地を挙げようと思ったら、答える前に試験官Cが割って入る。)

C: I've heard some western hotels heve hot spring resorts, too.
What do you think is the difference between Western hot springs resorts and Japanese hot springs resorts?

I see Western hot spring resorts are for people to drink hot water. In Japan people enjoy relaxing in a tub of hot water.

C: So the difference is whether they have a soaking tub or not?

I think so. Sorry, I'm not familiar with this. I've never been in foreign hot springs resorts.

A: Where do Japanese people go in the evening?

Many Japanese office workers go to drink together (大きくうなずく) to Izakaya or a Japanese tavern to have drinks. They also go to karaoke pubs (再
び大きくうなずく) to unwind after a hard day's work.

A: We see some foreign sumo wrestlers in Japan. What do you think about it?

I think it is a good thing. Our tradition is now mixed with the Western culture.(大きくうなずいてYes)We enjoy various foods and live in semi-western style of houses. So I think it a good thing.(AうなずいてGood!)

C: (Cが割って入り)Some old people would like to purify the sumo...........
(外国人力士についてどう思うか)

I understand the older generation would like to keep sumo in a pure style.
But our genaration would have nothing against foreign westlers.

C: Women are still banned to enter the sumo ring. What do you think about it?

Oh, I'm against it. Sumo must accept women.(A,C 笑い)

A: What is a golden week in Japan?

It is a holiday started week of Green Day, Constitution Day and Children Day on April 29, May 3 and May 5 respectively.

A: What do people do during the golden week?

People travel extensively at home and abroad.
It's an ideal tourist season.

A: What is Green Day?

Green Day was originally celebrated as Emperor Showa's Birthday.

A: Yes. (大きくうなずく)

The Day is to commemorate Emperor Showa, who was interested in preserving the environment.

C: (試験官AとBに目配せして、AとBがうなずく)
That's all. Thank you for coming.

Thank you for taking time for me. Good bye.
