Good afternoon.

A, B: Good afternoon.

A: Please sit down.

Thank you.

B: Please tell us your name.

My name is XXXXX.

A: where do you live?

I live in Tokyo. The area is called Kita-ku.

A: Oh, I see. (知っている感じ)Now I have several questions to you. When I
was in a small shop, I found that, when customers stopped is the shops
people suddenly changed the way speaking and attitudes. Before, they were
talking to each other in a very friendly way. But, after, they changed so
much. Why was it?

I think they tend to be relaxed and informal with family members and friend.
But with outside people like customers, they tend to change their attitude
to a formal and polite one, sometimes trying to do more business with the
customer.

A: I see. I was astonished by the change of attitude. In Canada, they won't
change attitude so much.

A: Ok...In Japan there was a news of strike of baseball players. What do
you think about it?

I think they were very brave. The strike was caused to protest the merger
between Orix Bluewave and Kintetsu Buffaloes. If the merger happens, many
baseball players were expected to lose their positions. But, afterward,
such situation was change.

A:(うなずいて)Thank you. My last question. I am from Canada and will
stay in Tokyo until next January. At my company, they are going to have a
party in January. What is it?

It is called Shinnen Kai. It is held at workplaces to celebrate the New
Year and meeting with each others again. We hold such meetings at Izakaya
or Japanese restaurants.

A: Ok. Thank you very much.

Thank you.(終ってから気付きました。このpartyは送別会のことだったと。)
