A: Good morning. Please have a seat.

Good morning.

A: I’m going to ask some questions. Where do you live?

I live in Sangenjaya, Setagaya-Ward, Tokyo.

B: Oh, I live in Setagaya, too.

Oh, I see. Setagaya is a nice place to live in.

It used to be an old part of Tokyo many years ago, but it has become
modernized lately.

B: Where would you take a guest to in Setagaya?

There is a famous temple called Gotoku-ji which is famous for the
"manekineko". The "manekineko" is a cat with one paw up, inviting
passers-by to come in. If the left paw is up, it is supposed to bring
in customers and if the right paw is up, it is supposed to bring in
money and good fortune.

B: Do you know the origin of the "manekineko"?

(招き猫の由来はしっかり覚えていなかったので、うろ覚えで)

One rainy day, a man was going to a temple and he lost his way. Then
he saw a cat beckoning. He followed the cat and was led to Gotoku-ji
Temple.

B: No, that is not so.

(B試験官は世田谷の方なので、招き猫の由来を流暢な英語で説明されたが、覚えていません)

Thank you so much for telling me.

A: If you were to take a guest to a place where you have never visited,
where would it be?

A place where I have never been?

A: Yes. That’s right.

I think I would like to take a guest to Mt. Aso in Kyushu. It’s a
famous volcano and has a very large caldera.

A: Kyushu is full of nature, which you don’t see much here in Tokyo,
isn’t it?

Yes. Kyushu is supposed to be a beautiful place with lots of nature.

A: OK. Thank you so much for coming. Have a nice day.

Thank you very much for taking your time.
