Good morning. Nice to meet you. My name is …. I live in … City.
A：Do you smoke?
A：What do you think of smokers’ and non-smokers’ rights?
Well, I think smokers’ rights are important, but non-smokers get affected by indirect smoking. So separate smoking is one ... one reasonable solution. In my workplace, there is a strict regulation that restricts smoking to only one place on one floor.
A：Do you think a more strict law banning smoking should be introduced?
In some countries, smoking in buildings is strictly banned. However, I don’t think it’s now a good solution. Completely banning smoking in public places is too strict for Japanese society. So I think 10 years later, if our common sense has changed, a bill stipulating a more strict ban can be introduced. But I’m not sure.
A：How about the government helping smokers to stop smoking in some ways?
I think it’s a good idea to discourage them from smoking. It may be possible, but I cannot think of any good way in which the government can be helpful for smokers.
A：In Singapore, smoking is strictly banned in public places and they must put cigarettes in ash trays set up outside. What do you think about this?
I think it’s a good suggestion for our society. To stop their smoking in public places, and their throwing cigarette butts on streets, this kind of ban is necessary.
A：By the way, what do you think about children’s obesity? What action should be taken?
I have a daughter, who is 3 years old. So for me, it is a serious problem. In my daughter’s case, she attends nursery school because I’m a working mother. In the nursery school, there are professional nutrition advisers. They send a message to each family monthly. It is a great help for parents. So I think sending advisory messages should be introduced in elementary schools and, if necessary, even in kindergartens.
A：What do you think about exercise?
These days there are an increasing number of children who have no brothers or sisters because of the declining birthrate. So they tend to lack exercise at homes. I think lessons in physical education in elementary school or activities in sport clubs after school could be helpful.
A：Tokyo has a lot of parks. How about the active use of these places?
I think this is a very good advantage of Tokyo. Tokyo is very noisy and crowded but it has a lot of trees in public places. A friend of mine, who is Dutch and has traveled abroad, says Japan has a unique point which other Asian countries do not have. That is to say, Japan has a lot of gardens and parks in comparison with other countries. I think we should promote the usage of the parks.
What is “geta”?（この瞬間タイマーが鳴ったため気がそれてしまった）
It sounds tough! But I’ll try to explain. They are a kind of clogs equivalent to Dutch clogs, but it has no sideline, and has a V-shaped thong, usually made of fabric. It’s a very clever way to keep our feet clean.(自分で何が言いたいのか不明。 足がクリーンって？ これで終わりと思うあまり早めに切り上げてしまった。)
A： Are you finished?
