Good morning.

A,B: Good morning.(笑顔)

May I put my belonging….?

Thank you.

B: Good morning.

Good morning.

B: Please tell us your name and where you live.

My name is …, and I live in Akishima city, which is in the western part of Tokyo.

A : How are you today?

I’m kind of nervous, but OK.(苦笑する)How about you?

A: Brilliant, thanks.

A: What is takoage?

Takoage is kite flying. We fly kites during New Year’s holidays.
But it’s a kind of old custom now. We rarely see people flying kites.

A: So how do people spend New Year’s holidays instead?

People stay at home, go to temple or shrine to pray for the new year, longevity….(途中で止めて)
Also, young people go overseas for vacation.

A: How do you spend these holidays?

Actually, this year I went to Saipan Island with my mother for a short vacation.

A: Good. Do you smoke?

No, I don’t.

A: Today there are lots of talks about smoking and non-smoking. (正確ではないが、禁煙の議論があるよねという意味)What do you think of smoking?

The international move is toward non-smoking .
Of course, smoking is not good for health. On the other hand, there is a right to smoke.
So it’s a controversial issue.
But personally, I think we should stop smoking because it’s bad for health and it might hurt other people’s health.

A: Can we smoke at restaurants in Japan?

You are not allowed to smoke in there.(苦しかった)

A: Now, what do you think about Koizumi’s new cabinet?

It’s interesting to watch the political scene from the historic point of view. I think Mr. Koizumi is very good at using the mass media to attract people’s attention toward politics. Now he appointed three new ladies to the cabinet.(とっさに3人といったが女性閣僚は2人の間違い。)He’s doing a good job. I think we can expect this new cabinet to change our society.

A: What kind of changes?

Most importantly, privatization of postal service system and public highway corporations.
Privatization is his important goal.

A: Why do you want to be a tour guide?

My experience as an exchange student in the U.S. made me interested in cultural exchange between different cultures.
I had a chance to live with a female student from Hong Kong. We had some difficulties. But we were able to understand our differences. And for some parts, we were able to exchange our culture. That was an interesting experience. So I would like to contribute to mutual understanding and introduce our important culture and histories to people from foreign countries.

A: OK. Why did you go to the U.S?

Because I wanted to do so.(なぜかすぐ出てこない。
Since my major in the university was environmental law, which was new to Japan at that time and I wanted to study more so I decided to go to the U.S. where the study was more advanced.

A: Where did you live in the U.S.?

In Davis, California. Close to Sacramento.

A: Sounds like a good place.

Not so interesting, though. Only a university and two movie theaters.(苦笑。

A: That’s boring.(苦笑)

Yes.

A: All right. Thank you. You did a good job!

Thank you very much. And thank you for this opportunity.(手を合わせてお辞儀)

A,B: Thank you.

Thank you.(再度お辞儀)

A : Have a nice day.

You too. Good bye.
