A: Good morning.

Good morning.

A: Take a seat, please.

Yes, thank you.

A: Why do Japanese people work till late at night?

I think it’s because there is severe competition among workers. The prices of goods have been decreasing, so we have to make great efforts to cut costs as much as possible. I think that’s why we work harder than people in other countries.

A: What do you think about the use of cellphones by children?

(cellphone が聞き取れなかったのでI beg your pardon?

I think it’s good. Because it’s very convenient for children to have a mobile phone. They can get in touch with their parents wherever they go. It’s helpful for their safety, too. If someone tries to do something bad to them, they can instantly call their parents.

A: What do you think about the use of cellphones on the train?

I think it’s OK. Japanese people don’t speak much in trains. When I went to foreign countries, I felt foreign people speak louder in trains. So compared to that, I do not think it is a serious problem in Japan.

A: Can you tell me about “geta”? What’s “geta”?

“Geta” is a traditional Japanese-style clog.

They are Japanese-style shoes.

A: Shoes?

Yes, they are Japanese-style shoes made of flat soles with V-shaped thongs.

それもmade of ではなくconsist of を使うべきだったと思った。

A: What’s “seijin-no-hi”?
“Seijin-no-hi” is Coming-of-Age day. It’s celebrated in January. Young people who became 20 years old get together at special places such as a gymnasium, the city hall, and so on. Local governments celebrate the occasion, and it’s one of the important events held in Japan.

A: OK, thank you.

It was nice talking to you, thank you.
