B： Please tell us your name and where you are from.
My name is …, and I’m from ….
A： I’m going to ask you some questions. Please tell me about the imperial family of Japan.
The imperial family consists of … emperor, empress, prince and princess.
The emperor and imperial family is the symbol of Japan and of Japanese tradition. It has over two thousand years of tradition.
A： Please explain the influence of American culture on Japanese people. Why do Japanese celebrate American holidays, for example Christmas?
Well, Japanese celebrate western holidays such as Christmas, because they are fashionable. There is no religious meaning for most Japanese.
A： I think so, too.（発音が難しいのでちょっと待ってと言いつつ）Please explain gagaku.
Gagaku is traditional Japanese music. It isn’t often played in modern Japanese life. But gagaku is played on special occasions such as imperial ceremonies and events at shrines.
B： Please tell me about your favorite traditional Japanese musical instrument.
I like biwa, though I’ve never played it. Biwa is similar to a lute. The shape is like a teardrop. Japan’s biggest lake is named after it.
B： Do you want to be a tour guide? And why?
Of course, I want to be a tour guide. When I traveled to China, there was a Chinese tour guide. He was a university student. His explanation on Chinese culture and the lifestyle of Chinese university students was very interesting, and I became very interested in Chinese culture. I was deeply impressed with that experience and I thought I want to be a tour guide myself.
B： (他の試験官に「もう質問ないよね」というような顔で見回してから) OK, thank you.
You are welcome.
