A: Hello.

Good afternoon.

B: Please sit down.

Thank you.

B: Please tell us name and where you are from.

My name is …. I live in Chiba.

A: What do you think about Japanese government sending troops to Iraq?

I’m opposed to it. Peace keeping activity is important. So if any country is asking for help, other countries should help. But in the case of Iraq, they don’t seem to be asking for help.

A: What do you think of Mr.Koizumi’s performance?

I don’t want to sound too critical, but I don’t like it. He is very popular among people. Just like an actor on stage, he is good at getting attention and raising popularity. But the point is, has he done anything for the country? Economy is now recovering, but it is not the administrative achievement of Mr. Koizumi and his cabinet. It is the achievement of ordinary companies who tried so hard to reducing the number of employees and increase sales.

Talking about the economy, it looks like the Japanese economy is booming. Is it the bubble economy just like the on in late eighties.

I don’t think it is a bubble economy. Stock market is in a state of mini bubble, but the overall economy is still unstable. I think, though I’m not a professional economist, the main reason for the present economic state lies in China. As Chinese economy grew, Japanese export increased. This kind of economic situation is not stable, and also due to the rising oil price, the economic future remains unclear.

A: What is the difference between emperor and shogun?

Emperors were the rulers of this country. It is said that emperors made this country during prehistoric period. Emperors had many people to guard them, and shogun was the head of those guardians or samurai warriors who served emperors. As time went on, shogun and samurai warriors gained power and took over the leadership.

A: How many religions are there in Japan?

There are three major religions ? Shinto, Buddhism and Christianity.

A: This is a difficult question. Why did the imperial family or emperors survive for such a long time? In other countries, kings were taken over by other people. Why were there only emperors in Japan?

It is a difficult question. I think one of the reasons is that emperors stayed away from the military activity. They used many people like aristocrats or shogun. So emperors did not have to face the opposing forces directly, and this made the image of emperor became more mysterious and less secular. Another reason is Shinto. Emperor is connected with Shinto and they were believed to be gods or representatives of god.

A, B, C: Thank you very much.

Thank you very much.
