B: Take your seat there.(とやさしく指示、きれいな英語だと感心!)

Nice to meet you.(座って一息ついてAと目が合うとすぐ大きな声で言った。)

A: Oh, nice to meet you! First, I’d like to ask you some questions, all right?

A: Just relax, just relax.

A: Tell me your name and where you come from?

My name is …. I came from Chiba.

A: Oh, Chiba(と言ったので何か千葉について聞かれるのかと思ったが)How do you come here?

I came here on Sobu line.

A: Oh, Sobu line? So you come from far away?

Yes, it took me more than an hour to come here.

A: Why do many Japanese learn English?

I think it is because people want to communicate with other people. We also want to know about other cultures. English is an international language, and we learn it to communicate with others.

A: OK.(とうなづき、次のQが聞こえず)

A: Korean culture is very popular in Japan right now, which language do people learn more English or Korean?

I think people study English more.(と言って短すぎると思い)But middle-aged women like me are so fond of Korean actors.

A: Do young people also learn English?

To tell the truth,(表現が古い!)I teach English to elementary school children in my neighborhood(と自分の方へ話題を寄せました)

A: Oh.(と身を乗り出し、うれしそうに)Which is more eager to learn English, their parents or themselves?

Both!
A: Both!

Yes. But children themselves are really interested in learning English. They enjoy mutual communication. They also have English lessons in their elementary schools.

A: Oh, I see. What do you think about online games?

You mean computer games and video games?(と聞き返し、考えをまとめる時間をとりました)

A: Yes!

A lot of young people spend too much time playing computer games. It’s dangerous.

A: Why?

Because sometimes they can’t distinguish imaginary world from real world. That leads to young people committing crimes.

A: Yes, that’s right. (3人ともうなづいてくれました)Now, what’s geta?

Geta are clogs made of wood. We wear it at festivals.

A: Clogs?

Yes, clogs!(発音に気をつけました)

A:OK, where can I buy geta?

You can buy them in Asakusa.
You can also buy them at department stores.

A: Yes, at department stores. (とうなづく)How much is geta?

I only know women’s…(と間をおき)

A: Of course…(と笑う)

About 5,000 yen.

A: (うなづいて)5,000yen , yes. OK, good job, thank you.

(もう終りなのだ) Thank you very much.
(Bに向って)Thank you.
