A: Hello. Have a seat.

Hello. Good afternoon. Thank you.

A:May I have your name, please?

My name is xxxx.
(聞かれてもいないスペルまで答えてしまって、試験管たちに苦笑されました。)

A: Where do you come from?

I come from Osaka city.

A: Which part of Osaka city?

Sumiyoshi ward. It is in the southern part of the city.

A: I am staying in Kyobashi? Is it near from your home?

No, it is not. Kyobashi is in the central part of the city.

A: I see.

A: I have just eaten lunch. I am full now. Have you finished your lunch?

Yes, I have.

A: The rice is one of the staple foods for Japanese? Could you tell me rice-producing areas in Japan?

I cite one area, which I think is the most famous for its rice production. It is Niigata prefecture, which faces the Sea of Japan and located approximately in the central part of Honshu.

A: Could you let me know what makes the prefecture a good rice-producing area?

I can point out two things.
First, for a geographical reason, it has large plains suitable for rice production. Secondly, Niigata prefecture government has been keen to develop new rice kinds.
(とっさに、品種の単語breedを思い出せませんでした。)

A: The government is eager to help farmers?

Municipal governments are generally so, but to my regret, the national government does not seem to do a lot to help farmers.

A: I see. And regarding the geography, could tell me the geographical features of Japan?

It is an interesting question. Japan has four main islands. Starting from the north, Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu. And Japan is a mountainous country. We do not have so many large plain areas in which people can live, so these areas, especially Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka are highly populated.

A: I have an interest in Japanese castles. Could you recommend to me the most beautiful castle in Japan?

The most beautiful castle in Japan is Himeji castle. Himeji castle is located in Hyogo prefecture, one of the neighboring prefectures of Kyoto. Himeji castle known as White Heron Castle, is an authentic and the most beautiful castle. Therefore, I recommend that you should visit it.
(authentic ではなく、originalと言うべきだった、後でしまったと思いました。)

A: Thank you.

A: By the way, I like many sports, especially American football.

I see.

A: Could you tell me about the Japan’s native sport, or the national sport?

Japan’s national sport is Sumo. Two weeks ago, a Grand Sumo Tournament was held.
As for rules, two wrestlers match against one another in a ring. If one competitor is pushed away or any part of his body except the soles of his feet touches the ground, he loses.
(two weeks ago ではなく、the week before last と言うべきだったと、後で思いました。)

A: While we are traveling in Japan, if my daughter is sick, how should I do?

If you are staying at a hotel, you should contact the front desk of the hotel. They will tell you about hospitals and the doctors that can treat your daughter well. Also, local governments usually prepare a list of hospitals which are used to seeing foreign patients. You can get information from their homepages.

A: I see. Thank you.
