A:Please tell us your name and where you are from?

My name is xxxx. I am from Kamata ward, Tokyo.

B:Ok.Why are there so many hot spring resorts in Japan?

Well, hot springs are gifts from magma. Japan is a volcanic country, and there are also many volcanic activities under the land of Japan. Thanks to them, we have many hot springs. In addition Japanese people tend to like soaking in hot springs. That is why there are many hot spring resorts in Japan.

B:Which hot spring resorts do you recommend?

Well, I’d recommend Izu,Ito and Atami which are on the Izu Peninsula and are relatively close to Tokyo because the quality of the water in these resorts is said to be superb. In addition to this, you can enjoy fresh seafood dishes.

B:Do you have any suggestion for foreign tourists who visit hot spring resorts?

Well, the Japanese bath manner is very different from those of other courtiers. I would advise them not to wash their body inside the bathtub. The bathtub is only for soaking and we wash ourselves outside the tub in Japan.

B:Do you have any other suggestion?

I would suggest that they should try an open air bath called”rotenburo”. I am sure that they will be able to feel relaxed, enjoying the beautiful scenery around.

B:Which historic town do you recommend for foreign tourists ?

Near Tokyo area?

B:All over Japan.

I would recommend Matsue,in Sanin district. It faces Lake Shinji, so it is surrounded by water. Also it is blessed with an abundance of beautiful natural scenery. In Matsue, Matsue Castle is a kind of must. It is surrounded by woodland and has a relaxing and calming atmosphere. I went there with my mother last year and in fact I was impressed.

B:Speaking of castles, which is the best castle in Japan?

I think that is Himeji Castle near Kobe. It is also known as “Shirasagijyo” , or White Heron castle. Unfortunately I have never been there, but since I first saw pictures of the castle, because of its beautiful appearance, I have thought it is worth visiting.

B:Well, when is the best season to visit there?

Definitely the best season is autumn because in autumn, you can also enjoy colorful autumn leaves. Colors of Japanese autumn leaves are not only yellow, but also red orange and so on. They are so beautiful.
I saw autumn leaves in New Zealand, too, but there're only yellow colored leaves. Japanese autumn leaves have a wide variety of colors.

B:OK,finally which foreigners’ traits do you think are rude?

Well, let me see...
Japan has a kind of gray culture. I mean when Japanese people want to say, “No”, they feel a flat refusal would hurt feelings of the other, so they often say, “I will think about it”. On the contrary, Western culture is a kind of black and white culture. Westerners tend to say yes or no clearly.
Therefore, such a kind of Westerners’ clear and firm attitude could make me feel rude since I am not used to it.
