Good evening.

Good evening.

Please put your bag on the desk.

Thank you.

How are you?

Fine, thank you. And you?

I'm fine, thank you.

Your name, please.

My name is .........

Where do you live?

I live in ........ ward, near .........

What is the difference between Udon and Soba?

(事前に準備していた質問だったので、すぐに答えて)Well, Udon is made from wheat flour. It's white and a little thick. On the other hand, Soba is made from buckwheat flour. It's thin and brown-coloured. Both are eaten either in a hot soup or cold soup.

Is Udon also eaten in a cold soup?

Yes. Udon in a cold soup is delicious in summer.

Oh, I see. I'll try it in summer. I think the summer in Japan is very humid. How do you cope with the humidity?

Well....(少し考えて)Yes, it's very humid in summer in Japan. Sprinkling cold water in front of the entrance of a house is a traditional way of mitigating the heat and humidity.(打ち水をするジェスチャーを入れる。

Oh, I've seen it before. OK, next. If you were a tour guide, what would you do when you have missed a train you all needed to catch?

First, I have to apologize to my clients. Then, I would try to catch the next, fastest train.

What would you do if you missed the last train of the day?

(Last trainを聞き洩らして一度聞きなおす)Well.., I have to stay at a hotel. But I think it is a little difficult.

What was the Heian period like.(大体このような質問だった)

The Heian period was the period of nobility, called Kizoku. In this period, graceful Japanese culture was developed. For example, the customs of viewing cherry blossoms in the spring and seeing the beautiful moon at night in the autumn. Also, the circular characters Hiragana were developed from the Chinese characters. The famous stories like Genji Monogatari, the story of Hikaru Genji, were written by female writers in Hiragana.(これもあまり準備していない質問だったが、何とか答えられたと思う。

Why do you want to be a tour guide?

I'm interested in cultural exchange. Now I work as a consultant for many companies, and sometimes I meet with foreign business people. I feel frustrated about not being able to explain so well about Japan and Japanese culture. So I'd like to explain them better.

What kind of Japanese cultural items do you feel difficult to explain?

They are traditional Japanese arts such as Kabuki, Noh, and Kyogen.

Thank you very much today.

Thank you. Have a good night.
