When I climbed, it was very cold.

What season...(と、言いかけて、「面接官に質問すべきでないだろうと思い、やめる。)

OK. I will ask you some questions about Japanese history and custom. At the end of the Edo period, the shogun returned his power to the emperor. What happenned?

It is called the Meiji Restoration. The Meiji Restoration took place in1868. As you said, Japan's political power was taken from the Tokugawa shogunate and was returned to the Emperor. And, political, economic, and culturel changes ware made in Japan. Japan agressively adopted many aspects of Wesutern culture, as a result of the new government's modernization policy. Seeking to enrich the nation and strengthen the military, the new government promoted modenization and industrialization by abolishing the feudal system and introducing western culture and political systems.

OK.I see many trees are covered with straw mats? What is that for?

It is done to protect the trees from cold wind and snow. They are often found in the nothern part of Japan.(でも、よくよく考えると、北部、というより、京都などでもよく見られる光景でしたね・・・・・・)

Could you explain ....53th ......?

Pardon?

Could you explain Tokaido-gojyusantsugi?

Tokaido-gojyusanntsugi! I see.(と言いつつ、内心はちょっと困ったなと焦る)Tokaido-gojyusanntsugi has become popular due to Ukiyoe of Katshishika Hokusai. Ukiyoe is a style of wood block printing developped during the Edo period, from the 17th to the 19th century. Hokusai created many ukiyoe of Tokaido-gojyusantsugi.(と、ごまかそうとする)

Oh, Ukiyoe!It is very famous.

The route starts from Tokyo to ........ as far as I know, (相当、テンパってます)to somewehre near Osaka. The route of Tokaido-gojyusantsugi is similar to the route of Shinkansen, the super express train.(身振り、手振り交え必至でした。)Shizuoka, my hometown is inclded in the route.

Where is the nearest station?

Shin-Fuji station, which means new Mt. Fuji.

What is Shizuoka prefecture famous for, apart from Mt Fuji?

It is known as the production of...(asではなく、forにすべき。 文法が乱れる)It is known for the production of green tea and oranges.

Oh! Oranges! Mikan? Tangerine oranges.

Yes, tangerine oranges. Thank you very much! And, the climate is very mild. It isn't very cold even in winter, so many people say it is the best place to live in.

Is it your opinion?

Not only I, but also many people say so. And, in Shizuoka, there are many hot spring resorts.

Why Japanese people like hot springs so much?

There are many reasons. One reason is that it is closely related to the climate of Japan. Japan has four clear-cut seasons. In summer, it is hot and humid, and in winter, it is very cold. So Japanese people like to soak in hot and deep bath. And another reason is that a hot spring is effective for curing some diseases including cancer.

Oh, really? And what are famous hot spring resorts in Shizuoka prefecture?

In Izu, which is in the southern part of Shizuoka, there are many good hot spring resorts. Their easy access from Tokyo is an attractive aspect.

Thats's good. I'd like to visit Shizuoka.

I'll guide you around!

Ok. That's all for today.

Yes. Thank you. I enjoyed it very much.
