試験官

<試験官A>

<試験官B>

Please tell us your name and where you are from.

My name is ........ and I'm from ........ city, ........ Prefecture.

Please tell us about ........

Well, ........ is a modern city with culture center, music hall, recently built with state of the art building technology. Back in 1960's, ........ was a notorious air-polluted city. But, since an environmental problem occurred, all those factories and steel mills along the coast moved off to a small island nearby. The air pollution problem has been solved, and now ........ is a very clean-air city. ........ has been placing a special emphasis on various events taken place in the city, and the Halloween Parade is one of them. It has now become famous not only among the people in ........, but also among the people in the neighbouring cities. Many people enjoy participating in this parade, disguised in odd clothings.

Any“Trick or Treat?”

Well, Halloween came from America, but there came no "Trick or Treat" with the ........ Parade here as they are in the U.S. Anyway, ........ is now a very modern and clean city and I'm very pleased to be able to live here.

Now,let me ask you some questions.

All right.

Who was the last Shogun?

Tokugawa Yoshinobu was the last Shogun, who had ended the Edo Period, which had lasted for about three hundred years. He had resigned by returning his sovereign power to the emperor.

Why did he have to end the period?

Because of pressures from countries overseas to open Japan, and also because of internal pressures to introduce new systems from abroad into Japan in order to make her a modern country.

Now, let me ask you a question from cultural aspect. Can you tell me about Fifty Three Stations of Tokaido?

それでもBetter than no answerか。 Those Fifty Three Stations of Tokaido had been established during the Edo Period and does not necessarily coincide exactly with those of today. The old system of the Edo Period had been changed and, so did the Fifty Three Stations of Tokaido. I’m not acquainted with all those Fifty Stations of Tokaido, but .... was one of them. Odawara and Hakone are the ones as well.

Suppose your sightseeing tour met a traffic accident, what would you do?

I will immediately tell my tourist guests what have happened, and will carefully follow the situation for the time being. If there's no sign of immediate solution, I'll call my tourist office and explain what had just happened and seek their advice from them. Usually, in such case, though the bus driver is deeply involved with the congestion, I think, tourists in the bus would be oblivious to their surroundings.

Last question. Could you tell me what they are doing by covering a strawmat around trees during the winter time?

I'm sorry I didn’t quite understand what you said. Could you paraphrase it?

I understand now. Those strawmats are used around trees to protect them from severe coldness during the winter season.

That's all for today. Thank you.

Thank you. I enjoyed it.
