Hello.

Hello.

Please put your coat and bag on that desk.

Thank you.(コートとかばんを椅子の脇におく)

Please have a seat.

First, may I have your name?

My name is .........

Where do you live?

I live in ........ city, ........ Prefecture.

Oh, ........! Did you come to Tokyo today?

No, I came to Tokyo yesterday, and I stayed at a hotel last night.

I see.

OK.(ここでAがタイマーをセットしたようだった)Suppose I am a tourist to Japan and you are a tour guide. I will ask you some questions. OK?

Sure.

First, I heard that Japan has four seasons. Please tell me about seasons in Japan.

Well, Japan has four clear-cut seasons, spring, summer, autumn, winter. And there is a rainy season called Tsuyu in Japanese, between spring and summer. During the rainy season, it rains a lot, and humid. It is uncomfortable to live in.

Which season do you like?

I like summer.

Oh, you like summer!

Yes. In summer, we can watch fireworks display held at local festivals. And, we can eat watermelon!

Oh, watermelon!(3

Where do you see fireworks?

In Niigata. At river banks, people gather, wearing yukatas, and see fireworks, which are shot up to the accompaniment of the voice, "Tamaya!" or "Beautiful!" or "Wonderful!" Do you like watching fireworks?

Yes. I like them very much. OK. Changing the subject, about Sumo. Please tell me about Sumo's rule.

Sumo's rule is very simple, compared with those of baseball or soccer.

Oh, please tell me about it.

Two contestants are matched in a ring. If one is pushed out of the ring, or if any part of his body except the soles of his feet touches the gound, he is lost.

Oh, I see. Sumo wrestlers throw something before the battle ....

It is salt.

Why do they throw salt?

Perhaps, to purify the ring.

Why salt?

Because salt is believed to drive away evil spirits.(A,B頷く)You know, in Japan, when someone returns home from a funeral, his or her family throw salt on his or her body. The objective of that action is to drive away evil spirits.

I see. Next question. Please tell me about Kamakura.

Kamakura is a very popular spot for tourists, because there is Daibutsu, the great image of Buddha in Koutokuin Temple, and there is Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine. Actually, I have been there a month ago for sightseeing.

Oh! How was it?

Wonderful. I saw Daibutsu. Daibutsu in Kamakura is in the open air.

I see. How tall is it?

Approximately 13 meters tall.

Oh! Really? It's big.

Yes. And I also entered inside the Daibutsu. I was surprised to find that there was a hole in Daibutsu. Inside we can see nothing. It's dark. His face looks revere, and noble, so I prayed to him.

I see. OK, next. Why do you want to be a tour guide?

Simply, I like and love English. I want to use my English ability for the friendships between foreign countries and Japan. Then I want to give pleasure to foreign people, and I also want to get pleasure from them.

I see. Next question. Please tell me about Nikko.

Nikko is located in Tochigi Prefecture, near Tokyo, and a very famous spot for tourists. There is Nikko Toshogu Shrine, and there, Ieyasu Tokugawa is enshrined. He was the first shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate. He built the foundation of the Tokugawa shogunate. I think he was a thoughtful, intelligent person. Toshogu is beautiful, and it is man-made beauty. And also the nature is beautiful. The contrast between man-made and natural beauty is wonderful. And, near Toshogu, there is a great fall called Kegon-no-taki. Great flux ... plenty of water is flowing down, and it attracts many people from all over the world.(ここでAのタイマーが鳴る)

OK. Thank you.

(これで終わりなのかはっきりしない雰囲気だったので)Is it finished?

Yes.

Thank you very much.
